    Clothing Optional Cuba

    Hi all

Single male planning to visit Cayo Santa Maria in Cuba, mainly due to the clothing optional beach + have heard the beach itself is stunning.

Has anyone been there ? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Planning to go June 2013 solo from Toronto.

    Cheers !

Yup been there, a little over a year ago
We stayed at the La Dunas cayo Santa Maria, about 1km from the nude beach.
There is a Cuban web site that describes the beach area, with hotel locations.

The beach is nice, but when we were there the surf was up, lots of red flags.

We have lots of pictures of the area.

Choose your hotel wisely, as some don,t have beach. Well at least they didn,t have one in 2011.

Here's a link to more information on Cayo Santa Maria.

I under stand that "Memories" has taken over one or two resorts there.

Playa CSM had no the beaches when we were there, I have the pictures.

We have been to both Cayo Santa Maria and Cayo Largo if you are going for a naturist experience Cayo Largo is much much better that Cayo Santa Maria, We found that Sol Cayo Largo was the best for nude beach you can walk for about 3 miles nude with no problem

Thank you for that nugget of information Eskimo. We are planning a 'nude on the beach' vacay for Jan 2014. We have been tossing back and forth Sol Cayo Santa Maria and Sol Cayo Largo. You are the second person that has recommended Cayo Largo. I also understand that the transfer from the airport to the resort is a lot shorter in Cayo Largo than Cayo Santa Maria.

Any tidbits of advise or information is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

Definitely agree with the previous posts, Cayo Largo is the better choice over Cayo Santa Maria. Both are beautiful but at CSM only the Sol CSM has a nude beach and it can be quite a hike if you don't stay at that specific hotel. The Sol has beautiful grounds but the rooms are getting quite dated

At Cayo Largo pretty much all the resorts offer a nude section and there's many miles of virgin beach. Try and stay at either the Sol Cayo Largo or Sol Pelicano. Both of these are on the west end of the island and the beach is much better. The only negative to Cayo Largo is the lack of nightlife, it's very quiet in the evening unless you create your own party.

Thank you Cdncpl. We have pretty much decided on Sol Cayo Largo. It is unfortunate about the night life but we are trying to put a group together of like minded friends. We realize that this is not a LS resort but the main attraction is the ability to go nude on the beach. We are planning on 'behaving'. Does anyone know if either the Sol Cayo Largo or the Sol Pelicano have a disco? If it all works out that a group of us goes down together then we will be able to get the party going. It would be nice to put the party to music!
We also heard that on Friday night you can go into the village and party with Hotel staff at the village 'pub'. Has anyone done this?

Yes both of the Sol resorts have a disco. Because they are the same ownership you can use the facilities of either resort. We checked out the disco at both and found them to be about the same, quite small and very dead on some nights and fairly lively on other nights. Like anywhere I guess it depends on the group of people that are there at the time. Going with a group of friends is a great idea, you can start the party and keep it going.

We also heard about dancing at the townsite but never checked it out. We went there only dining the day, never in the evening.

I plan on going for 14 days in early April 2014. Westjet to Toronto, then Air Transat to Cayo Largo. I find that 7 day trips are to short. I want to rent a Scooter or Jeep(Suzuki) this time around and visit the Secluded beaches East of the Hotel Zone.

We rented scooters, the island itself is really small so very easy to get around and doesn't take long to get from one end to the next even on scooters. Have a great trip, we haven't been back in a few years. We love the beaches of Cayo Largo, probably the most beautiful of anywhere we've been but the lack of nightlife is the deal breaker for us.
