    Hobie cat sail boats

Does anyone know how far they will let you go on one of these little hobiecat sail boats? Can we go into bloody bay, or half way down towards negril?
    How far have you been?

The last time we went out they gave it to us for an hour. We got down to Nigril and had to turn around and come back. I think it was because all the Cats were out and thats why they limited our time.

They did ask us to stay away from the Island because of the rocks.

    Thank you for the answer.
We took one out last year but we didn't go very far, kinda just stayed out front of the resort and the wind wasn't very strong so it was a little slow for my liking.

We're sailors at home, and find when the wind gets going and it will be a ton of fun...they don't let you take a boat out...we don't enjoy just putzing around with little or no wind...so kind of a catch 22 and trying to balance wind and fun!

Try a jet ski. 6 of us rented 4 of them, in November, I think we paid $60.00 an hour, per one. A lot of fun, just like riding a motor bike. The water sports guys can fix you up.

Jamaica has one of the highest jet ski accident rates in the entire world.
All inclusive resorts, people drunk and high and flying around on jet ski's.
    Makes sense.

Thats it, if they would let you take one out when you have a half way decent wind, it would probably be alot of fun but then again I'm not an experienced sailer so I might not get back to where the real fun is.

I went out and was not warned about the rocks between Booby Cay and Hedo. We started out left of the Island and there was hardly any wind. As we circled aclockwise around the island the wind started picking up. On the home stretch between the island and Hedo the wind was high and I was getting a bit tense as I realized there were not only rocks but humans bobing around. I let the sail out but was still clipping along pretty good dodging everything and everyone. I think I will keep my sailing to freshwater lakes fom now on.

We paid the fisherman 10ea to take us to Booby Cay and bring us back--- Having a load on the ride back w/ a motor was awesome!

I always enjoy watching the Hobies in April try and round the corner by the nude beach. There is a funny patch there where there is no wind. I've seen many a small sailboat becalmed there, some going backwards and a few sailors having to jump off and push. Very entertaining, they sit there for a long time and as soon as they are underway again they head directly back to the resort. Usually a nice honeymoon couple who came by for a peak at the nude beach and got trapped there, too funny watching them fidget as I stand 25 yards away stratching my head and watch.

Been a small craft sailor for 35 years, so I figure I'll work out being in irons near the point. Mayeb this year we'll take a hobie out. The rocks are kind of nasty on the other side of booby cay though, so pay attention. Even a kayak in in some wind can be a handful.
