    Spray tan..... any thoughts?

Ok so we are WHITE people... and by that I mean pale. In the past few years we have just done the spray tan thing because, well, a couple reasons but among them being neither of us has the patience really to lay in a tanning bed over and over AND still a little worried on the skin cancer front about the exposure to such high intensity UV.
In the news last month I saw something about a woman who may have had a reaction to the spray tan stuff and DIED. Anyone have any adverse reactions to it before? We haven't but it does give me pause.

Visit a dermatologist and hear him/her mutter, "oh, oh" and proceed to cut off an offending piece of skin for analysis. Then get the lecture about skin cancer and sun damge. Then follow up with frequent, regular appointments to have ever-increasing bits of skin burned off.

Then you can look back on all those stupid decisions not to use sunscreen, to use a tanning bed, to burn in the sun.

Or you can follow the best advice and apply a good sunscreen, wear a hat, and limit sun exposure (particularly around mid-day).

Your choice. But a nice tan with cancer removal scars all over your face, ears, back and chest really does not cut it. But the dermatologist does!

Sometimes even those that use protection are doomed to have those removal scars. Its not just because they ignored the warnings.

I grew up at and around the beach and suffered many sunburns, but for about the last 20 years I have tried to be very conscientious about sunscreen as well as a lip balm with sunscreen in it and a hat. We have never been burned on vacation- we reapply at least 3 times a day over our spray tan. On top of that I am exposed to moderate doses of carcinogens on a fairly regular basis on the job- even through my ppe which I keep clean and wear properly. Cancer scares the hell out of me. It does seem a shame to go on a naked vacation and not come back with a "real" tan... but since I lost a friend to matastatic melanoma a couple years ago it doesnt bother me that much.
