We posted this on the Desire Forum but thought it might be of interest here too..
This was our first time at Desire, although we have been to the naturist / libertine resort of Cap D’Agde and so were used to the clothing optional / lifestyle environment.
We flew from London Gatwick, a 10 hour flight arriving early afternoon. Transfer with Lomas travel was fine and we were soon enjoying a glass of champagne in the reception, whilst Adrianna gave us a run down on the resort.
Accommodation – our pre-trip research suggested that spending more money on a better room was, on the whole, not worthwhile, so we opted for a Garden View room. We were initially allocated a room in block 10, which faces towards the entrance. This room is under the Jacuzzi and our first night was punctuated by raucous noise from a room party above… man did she have a good time! It was also a little remote from the beach. We organised a move to a Garden Room closer to the beach, which was much better. Some friends had a room in block 22 and we liked this much more. It had a small [shared] terrace and views to the ocean - we’ll try for this next time.
Having said that, our room was perfectly adequate; a decent king bed, en-suite, well stock mini bar [although we found the motor on the fridge a little noisy at night] and air con. Room service was excellent; fresh sheets / towels daily and spotless cleaning.
Restaurants – Although the buffet was fine for breakfast, with freshly cooked eggs to your liking and a vast array of cooked / cold meats and fruit, we found it really didn’t pass muster for the evening meal.
We dined at Il Piacere 3 times. The beef on our first trip was not good, but the meals on the second and third visits including a ‘surf and turf’ were above average. They have a decent wine list, if you want to have something other than the house wines. We tried a couple of Napa Valley Cabernets, one of which was outstanding a New World Pinot, also good. It’s not a huge list but good.
We had 2 good meals at Suki. The Chicken Tikka Masala was excellent but perhaps a limited menu.
You cannot book at either Il Piacere or Suki, which could lead to a little wait, but no issue. We had a beer and talked to some more folks!
On the whole the level of food is good but not outstanding.
The lobby pizzas and BLT’s are worth a special mention.. difficult to resist after a long night dancing when you smell the aroma of freshly baked pizza and bacon!
The Beach – we tended to go to the beach each day, where there was more of a breeze and perhaps a more relaxed environment than the pool. If you wanted to reserve a palapa, but didn’t want to pay $20 a day or $100 for the week, you had to be up early, maybe 7 or 8 am.. not always conducive to a restful holiday but a nice time of day to be up all the same!
The palapas were great. Dappled sunlight offering shade from the mid-day sun and impossible not to make acquaintances with your neighbours..
The beach itself was fine; narrow but perfectly adequate and raked each morning.
The beach bar was something else.. you can order drinks at your bed or wander down to the bar, which we liked to do.. we soon meet ‘CC’ and tried so many well made cocktails.. our favourite after extensive tasting and research… the blended mohito.. wow that is something else!
The staff are wonderful. They deliver great service to everyone.
The playroom was awful.. it looks good but the lighting is too bright and a constant procession of people checking things out plus a door that slammed and noise from the disco really doesn’t work… a real pity..
The Vibe…
What really makes this place is the people you meet and the general vibe about the place. You can go to ‘vanilla’ resorts and spend a week close to people but never get to know even their names.. When people are naked it seems so much easier to say hello and strike up a friendship… we have never encountered a level of friendliness and warmth as we did at Desire. And that is not because people just want to hook up.. there is a genuine warmth and friendliness, whether you want to get down with a couple or if you just like the naturist, liberal environment.
We met couples from all over the world, all of whom had interesting stories to tell and who were interested to listen.. we learned and laughed a lot!
Desire was a destination on our journey of discovery and exploration of our relationship and sexuality. I would say that MrsIC was, perhaps like many women, quite anxious, when I first suggested a holiday at a clothing optional lifestyle resort. Each time we make these trips there is a threshold of anxiety to pass, as we strip naked and enter a new environment. For women, who are perhaps more self critical of their image, than men, this can be more challenging.
At Desire MrsIC found people openly complimentary about her body and looks. She found men [apart from her husband of many years] clearly excited to be in her presence. She felt comfortable enough to wear her sexy outfits with attitude. It is a liberating and stimulating environment in which to spend some time. And at the end, we found our relationship elevated to a new level of intensity and understanding… Of course that result is not just the consequence of some time at this wonderful place, but it did contribute enormously and we’ll definitely be back for more..
You can forget the detail about the restaurants, the gym, beach etc.. just enjoy the unique blend of the components this place has to offer and the lovely people you will meet and you will surely have the holiday of a lifetime!
