August issues with Independence Day

So I've been looking around on posts from various years and it seems that early August is the beginning for clebrations for the Jamaican Independence day (August 6th to be specific). I gather from other posts that this week tends to be a bit different as the PDA police are out in force more to cater to the locals who are there for the Holiday. We are booked August 9th through the 13th. I'm wondering if we will be there late enough to avoid this issue. I know it's the 50th anniversary so it's going to be a big deal for the Jamaicans. I figure if Independence day is on the 6th, then it would most likely be the prior weekend that would be bigger for locals. Any thoughts? I don't want my first Hedo experience to be a bust due to this.

The locals will be there in force, just dont let em jump in line ahead of you! its their country and some seem to not like Americans coming there, it is what it is. Regardless what you hear, not every Jamaican loves tourists. ATI parties are loud, you've never heard bass in America like what your about to here coming from the beach about a mile or 2 away. Resort will prob be packed, traffic is ass, if you have to go off resort go in the morning before everything starts. As far as PDA police, whatev. No worries there.

We have gone every year around that time and honestly aside from people wearing WAY too many clothes in August (Jeans and the like) it's not an issue aside from the resort selling out around that time. The locals get a different (and MUCH better) rate than tourists, and tend to go to the resort for the same reasons we do- all inclusive, party atmosphere. We understand that ATI does not start until August 2nd fortunately for us as we depart on the 4th.
At H3 there were a couple times that the PDA police were a little more active, but last year at H2 that was not the case. Our biggest issue was getting to the resort with the additional traffic down through Negril as we got there the day ATI began.

PS- by searching, I have not been able to find another group going the same week we are- that is a first for us- very much looking forward to it being a little less crowded and being able to tear it up with my AWOL peeps- check us out if you want!

Thanks for the info. Looks like regardless of all obstacles, fun is hard to avoid at this place. Can't wait to find out what everyone on this board is raving about.
