Travel Deal to H2 or not

    Best deal for 2012

OK, I've been searching the web for a good deal at Hedo, and, based on a comment here on this web site, I looked up Skoosh.com
For 14 nights at Hedo in April 2012 their price is $3038.00 USD. The best I can do with the traditional agents (denny, castaways etc.,) is about $3700.00 USD, plus or minus.

Nobody will match their prices. They all claim that the Skoosh price is below their cost (wholesale).

However, the tradtional TA's also, all preach FUD (Fear, Uncertainty and Disaster (an old IBM Term)), well most of them anyway, Denny didn't.
So the question is, has anyone from North America actually shown up at Hedo, after booking through Skoosh (an English on-line business), and been forced to pay a premium for NOT being European as the “FUD-ists” are predicting. Or been refused their reservation.
Last year there was a question between deals for Canadians and Deals for Americans, that was finally settle, by offering the same to both. But the comment came up about checking passports, on arrival.
$700.00 dollars to me means more time at Hedo. On the last trip to Hedo (earlier this year) they did ask for my passport, so they did know I came from Canada.

What are the dates you are looking at?
What room catagory are you looking at?
Is that price per person or is that for two people?

If it is for two people, then it sounds like a good deal to me!!!! But I am always leary booking on line since there is never anyone to deal with if you run into any problems. I have not heard of anyone who has booked with them so I can't comment. We are there the end of April, but we have a group with Wild Women Vacations.

    Hello dezzy,

Was anything said when you booked about a premium charged at the resort?
Did they ask where you were from?
Did you ask any questions about this?

Dezzy, I might contact Skoosh ahead of time to avoid problems later.
If you arrive at the front desk to check in and they want to charge you more than what you would have paid at Castaways, that might put a damper on your trip.

I realize that any company can have their own stipulations but with the internet and the global economy it doesnt make sense to have a tiered system.
If Skoosh is legit and can offer these trips so cheap, I imagine Castaways, Denny, Wildwomenvactions and others being pissed off about the market share they are bound to lose.
They in turn will go back to Superclubs asking for a better discount which will probably be declined with Superclubs not wanting to give profits away.

Is this just a subsidy to our European friends to make the vacation more attractive as they need to pay more in airfare?

Maybe I need a PO box / mailing address in the UK?

    Cheers,

That rate was for two people in garden prude, for 14 days all taxes in, in US dollars.

I've booked accommodation all over Europe, with many different web TA, and never had a problem when arriving at a site. This is the first time I've heard about a resort possibly upping the price on arrival. As I've post previously, last year there was a similar issue between American and Canadian bookings, that seemed to go away as mysteriously as it arrived.

Bon Voyage Dezzy, unfortunately I'll have booked something before you get back.

I booked through Skoosh and went Oct 10th to 17th and everything was fine. No additional charges or costs. I just printed my voucher from skoosh and presented it at the desk.

    Have fun.

    Hey Ray,
I contacted Skoosh for clarification and this is their response:

    Hello Steve,

I hope this email finds you well.

The rates you see on our site are guaranteed and include all taxes and fees, unless there is a special resort fee, however for the Hedonism 2 in Negril there is no resort fee, so the price you pay as you book online includes everything.

Please do bear in mind that the prices on our site are live and can be changed by the hotels at any moment, so the price as advertised today might change next week. But you will always pay the price as advertised on the moment you confirm your booking.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

    Kind regards

    Jonas

The Canadian/American price disparity continues....I just checked Expedia.ca (Canadian site) and Expedia.com (American site) for the first week of December and the American price is $50 higher per night. So this issue is not resolved at all....I'd heard the rumor about passports having to match booking country before and a surcharge added...You would be the first that I've heard actually having them ask for a passport.

Has anyone else been asked for passport on arrival? and more importantly has anyone ever been charged a surcharge when checking in?? I would find that hard to justify myself.

I booked our honeymoon for July 2012 through Skoosh about a month ago. It is worth mentioning that you may be charged a "foreign exchange fee". Supposedly it covers the cost of converting from dollars to euros, since the company is based overseas.

The fee is a percentage of the total price, I think about 2-3%. Our fee was roughly $50 extra -- certainly not a dealbreaker since I'm saving so much in the first place, but still unexpected.

Yes, at least the last several times over the past year I've had to provide my passport upon checkin.

All rate codes have terms and conditions, just like classes on airlines and rate codes for rental cars. Prices from the UK market might be discounted to encourage bookings from that market, as it has taken a significant dive with the increase in the APD tax(departure tax)for the flights. Also, I thought I read about Jamvac providing special incentives to the hotels to encourage bookings from target markets.

Best of luck and hope it works to your favor.

Thanks Steve for checking on that. I've had some TA's claim that the Skoosh price is below wholesale.

Glad to hear you didn't have any trouble "Londoncpl".

Sabinandscott, you are very correct about Expedia.ca/com. The price difference for April is much greater than $50.00.
The Expidea IP's resolves to the same IP address for both the American and Canadian versions (IP is registered in Bellevue WA), so most likely it's coming off the same server. So they are most likely aware what's happening here. While I'm glad we are getting a bargain, I can't image why they are screwing the Americans, considering there economical woes. Granted, some parts of Canada are farther from Jamaica than most parts of the US, but really.
As for the passport thing, the people in front of me, from New York, where also asked for their passports at the Super Club check in lounge.

I have found that this happens often with expedia.ca/com and is not just for Hedo its anywhere you go. Prices always are different between those two.
