List of Recent Improvements at Hedo

I posted this to the other board so for those of you that are also on there, this will be a "repeat", but I was so impressed with everything that was going on at Hedo in the last two weeks that I wanted to post it here for those who don't read the other board.

The improvements going on or scheduled to be done is very impressive. We were there in April when they began the demolition of the bridge and it was finished when went back last week. Other improvements we saw were:
- new tile floor in Delroys bar
- two new and very effective ceiling fans in Delroy's
- Plans to redo the bar top and outside tiles on the beach side of the bar (scheduled for September)
- One new "test" fan installed in the main dining which guests practically fought over to sit under. Replacement of all dining room fans is planned (no estimate on timing), but the test is a huge success.
- They were tearing up the cement tiles in the courtyard between the casino, gift shop and piano bar one section at a time to level that area and they replaced the grass between the tiles (definite hazard for the ladies in FMP's) with cement. At the rate they were going, I suspect the entire courtyard will be done in a couple of weeks or less.
- Repainting of the second floor nude side rooms near the nude volleyball court (same colors, fresh paint)
- Four new jacuzzis in the nude jacuzzi rooms closest to Delroy's, but the other jacuzzis were not replaced
- Better A/C in the disco (although one night it broke down altogether and they moved the disco to the pool deck (great idea because it was an uncharacteristically cool August night)
- New exhaust fan installed over the grill at the buffet
- Flambe station at dinner, located next to where the rolls and bread baskets are
- Entire nude pool deck scheduled to be resurfaced
- New and actually fluffy sand on the nude beach
- Some brand new lounge chairs were being taken out of plastic wrap and placed in the misting pool between the nude pool and hot tub

It was great to see that they're investing money in the "old girl" and making some much needed improvements. One thing that really needs to be addressed, however, is the broken drain (actually I think it's an outlet for water coming into the pool) on the right side of Delroy's as you face it from the pool side. This is dangerous. We saw someone get a pretty good gash from that broken drain cover last week. It's been broken for some time, but it's worse now and there as sharp edges. Something to be very careful of. This notwithstanding, though, the improvements are very impressive.

We are very happy to see these things going on around the property but in reality this kinda stuff is and should be considered regular maintenance.
If superclubs was actually interested in making real improvements then we would see new decks on the beach, equipment in the weight room that works, and a property that doesn't generally look like it belongs in 1990. If you can take a walk next door next time your at H2 and you will see what a real resort looks like, one that is kept in good order and doesn't look run down.

Don't get me wrong but something has got to change at Hedo and I mean real change, not just fluff. For what we are all paying, we deserve a much nicer place to stay when we spend our hard earned thousands of dollars.
Right now the Miss and I are planning on going to Mexico next time and until something at Hedo gets a lot better we will not be going back.

brannen and i have to laugh about bethjohns post about going next door to the next resort, last time when we were at H2, we decided to walk the beach, as soon as we left hedo property the sand was so much softer! couldn't believe the difference, of course we go to hedo for the people and not the sand, but just brought back that memory and had to laugh. we are looking forward to any improvements H2 will make, and can't wait to check them out ourselves is 79 days!

To BethJohn:
Sandals is quite a bit more expensive then Hedo. Sandal's Negril (next door) is a lot more expensive. Sure you can go to the Dominican or Cancun for less money but it isn't Jamaica, and if it's Mexico I wouldn't drink the water no matter what they told me.

We walked off Hedo last April, really didnt notice a difference in the sand. We did notice that about 60% of the people at the other resorts were either doing crosswords, or reading.

I have to agree too, last year we took a walk over across the street and had lunch.... I was a bit surprised how run down it seemed compared to Hedo. H2 was about 60 % full , Breeze's was empty and quite boring. Although they did have some killer lamb chops at the nude pool ! Granted H 2 does need some updating... but overall they have really been maintaining the place ( H 2 ) well.I always see something being painted, they have been improving the rooms ; air conditioners, TV's , plumbing... ect. And hell I'm hardly ever in my room anyway.

Maybe most of it could be considered regular maintenance, but at least they're doing it and it's making a difference. As far as "next door" is concerned, with all due respect, I wouldn't go there if it was free because staying there wouldn't even be worth the airfare to me (well, maybe if it was free because then we could afford to buy day/night passes every day for Hedo) LOL. We did walk the beach past Sandals last April and it was positively depressing. The beach set up was lounge/table/umbrella/lounge, six feet of sand, lounge/table/umbrella/lounge, etc. with a couple in each of the set ups either reading books, their Kindles or on computers. Not only were none of the guests talking to other guests, the couples weren't even talking to each other! It looked like a bunch of people sitting there waiting to die. I couldn't imagine a more boring vacation. I wouldn't care if the accommodations were individual 800 sq ft condos with 5 star food because, a) we still wouldn't spend any time in the room and b) that's just not our idea of a fun vacation. We regretted the 15 minutes or so it took to walk to the end of Sandals and back because it was 15 minutes we could have spent having fun "next door". Most people go to Hedo for the people and the party. The ones who get it wouldn't go anywhere else. The ones who don't just have different priorities. Nothing wrong with that, but Sandals just isn't our cup of tea. We've been to Mexico three times and it they were good "alone time", "reconnecting" vacations, but they weren't a party. Interesting side note - when we walked past Sandals G had a bathing suit on, on the walk back she decided to go topless just to see the reaction of the guests. The men sort of peaked over their Kindles and followed her with their eyes, but never moved their heads because they were afraid theiur wives would see them looking at her. That was actually amusing!

We agree with what most have said in that the updates being done should be considered routine maintenance, but we also agree that it is the people and the atmosphere that make Hedo what it is. If you want 5-star furnishings and the like, you could choose from a thousand other vacations. The people that return to Hedo do so for other reasons. That being said, it is nice to see SC putting money back in to the resort. We too take walks almost every morning down the beach. Outside of some kids playing on the beach, the other resorts are like museums.

But it even better when we point it out to you, lol. We were driving down the road the other day and I said "check out that woman's ass", so of course he did and agreed it was very nice!!! A lot of people just don't understand that in the vanilla world, lol.

And back to the original conversation, lol. Glad they are doing the improvements to make the place even better, but like everyone says, it is the people that make Hedo what it is!!!!

It is definately the people!!!!If you haven't read our trip report please do....we had everything go wrong and I do mean everything...yet we still had the time of our lives. The people you meet and the long lasting friendships you make are what going to Hedo is all about! We could not imagine going anyplace else! We could go anywhere in the world and we have been to some beautiful resorts and nothing compares to Hedo and the people you meet. We love y'all!!!!!!
