Breezes Rio Bueno, formerly Grand Lido Braco, will shut its doors on April 30 after it became clear that SuperClubs' strenuous efforts over the past two years to arrive at a mutually satisfactory lease arrangement with the owners were not going to succeed.
In a release yesterday, SuperClubs said it had terminated the lease for force majeure, but continued to operate the hotel in good faith during negotiations.
"The owners had ample opportunity to find a new operator, but it appears none has been found," SuperClubs said. "We deeply regret that more than 300 loyal team members will lose their employment in these harsh economic times."
SuperClubs took over operations at Breezes Rio Bueno in 1996. Soon afterwards, it achieved the AAA four-diamond resort rating and became very popular with foreign and local tourists alike who enjoyed its Jamaican Village setting. They partnered with Caribbean Travel and Life Magazine to showcase the Best of Jamaica every October since 2004.
"It is very unfortunate that we could not come to an arrangement to keep Breezes Rio Bueno open, but that is the nature of this business. Breezes Resorts are still as popular as ever, and we will be concentrating our efforts on all our resorts in Jamaica, Bahamas, Curaçao, Brazil, Panama and Cuba," said John Issa, chairman of SuperClubs Super-Inclusive Resorts.
