deposit for phone calls

can anyone tell me if its possible to do like we did at H3. if you leave money with the front desk for phone calls, you just use the room phone and call direct, and whatever money you didnt use was returned at checkout, this worked well for us and it didnt seem like the cost was all that much, we always got money back. it was way cheeper than cell phone use. thanks

Yes you can, or also use a credit card as a deposit. They will charge it upon your checkout.I would check the rates though, I don't remember the prices.

Thanks Bob, i dont know what the rates were at H3, it just seemed like it never cost more than $20 or $30 for a couple of calls every day for a week so i didnt think that was to bad.

I agree,as I have had a couple of higher phone bills after going to Jamaica. They post the rates at the front desk and in the room.

i just thought of something !!! i wonder if when you place a call from the room if that person has caller ID if it shows up !!!

We took our Verizon cell phone with us last Dec and were able to make calls using that a lot cheaper than going thru the hotel.

Me I own a Jamaican cell phone and for 20 $ I get a thousand minutes.

If you bring a laptop (that has a microphone) and pay for the wireless at the resort you can use Google Voice and call the States for free. We did this last month and it worked great. Granted the fee for wireless is $15 a day or $12 if you buy the whole week, but depending on how much you want to talk it can be cheaper than the $2-3 per minute you can rack up on a cell phone.

Went into Negril and bought it at the digicell store.

I called Verizon before the trip and asked about using the cell phone while in Jamaica. They said it wouldnt work. Just for the hell of it we tried it any way and the call went thru. Turns out the salesman gave me wrong info. There are calling plans that you can get month by month from Verizon for making calls a little cheaper when out of the country.

verizon charges me 1.99 a minute from Hedo to call home getting your own prepaid cell is the cheapest way to go.

When I was at H3 last year I left me credit card # for a deposit and then bought minutes at the gift shop. They were $35 for a lot of minutes. It was pretty cheap!! Then they charged me a small amount for a connection fee for each call on check out.

thanks, mac r a , when we were at H3, we just left a cash deposit at the front desk, made all the calls we needed, and it was,nt much at all cost wise, but not sure about H2. are you still going to Desire in dec? I thought i read that it was not just for vacation purposes, hope all is well and you will return feeling great!! We were at Desire Cancun once, it very nice, just about the same vibe as Hedo, but you just miss the Jamican people, the beach kinda sucks, but the beds on the beach are nice. the food is really good, the sushi is the best we have had at an AI. hope you have the best time ever and all works out for you, take care
