    Verizon Data & Cell service

I called Verizon before leaving last week to check on using my Motorola Droid in Jamaica and they set me up with International calling and International CDMA data roaming.

International calling was a free setup and $1.99 / minute to call the US.

The interesting thing was the data. They set me up with a $64.99/month plan that gave me unlimited data for no extra charge. The rep said when I returned home to just call and cancel so my final bill for 8 days of unlimited data roaming was less than $20!!! It worked very well down there although I kept it turned off most of the time just in case the rep had mis-spoke or I mis-understood but on checking my account today I see all my Jamaica usage and got billed nothing extra for it

If you have a Verizon smart phone it is worth checking out.

I made a few short calls to family and sent and received several texts. Texts were supposed to be .50 outgoing and .05 incoming. My billing cycle ends on the 9th so that is when the true story will come out and if it is different than I was told I'll update this. As with all cellular plans, your mileage may vary and I don't really trust any of them!

We had used our Verizon last year, just added international coverage, I believe I was able to specify Jamaica...it was great...turned the phone on to call home and check texts from kids...then turned it off the rest of the time...it also allows the not having to leave a hotel name and # to them also...LOL planning on using the same thing again when we go back in Nov.....can't wait!!Mindy

Yup we did the same thing. Verizon was great. We called and turned it on in the airport and turned it off when we arrived back in the USA. For anyone that is doing it for the first time. Make sure you have the service turned on before you leave the US.
