We used our Verizone phones last April no problems. Had to call Verizone several days before we left the states. Extra $10.00 for one month for both phones to work. Calls are pricey $1.49 per min U.S. Text message was cheap ...10 to receive .40 to send. We ended up using a calling card from resort for long calls home. People's Card sold in gift shop. 200 minutes for $20.00. Remember that the resort will charge $2.00 for each time you make a call. Trick was to make all your calls together and only pay once for all calls. The card has dirrections on back side. Hope this helps. Don't forget to call Verizone when you get back.

make sure to contact verizon before going. YOu will have to call and make sure your phone has international setting. Text is not too bad, but phone calls are cheaper using the gift card as compared to cell phones. At least that was our experience.
